Phillip Phillips! The 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Leesburg, Georgia is your season 11 “American Idol” winner. Did the wrong contestant win again? You tell me, this is a televised popularity contest and the “White Guy With Guitar” happened to get more votes than Jessica Sanchez. I suppose somewhere someone at AI can tell us what the percentage of young girls verses everybody else is, but we all know the story there don’t we. American won’t vote a gay man or a young girl if they are up against an all American boy! It doesn’t mean “American Idol” is racist. It doesn’t mean that Phillip won solely due to his little boy smile and manly phisyque. These finalists were wildly different. Each had strengths and weaknesses, and both could have won. They’ll both get record deals and Jessica will be a major star. Put her together with the right producer and song and you have a superstar!
As far as the winner goes, I hope he can write well and have a great band behind him, because he sure can’t sing, honestly I’m surprised he came this far let alone win it, but then again all those young girls voting!
Never before has “Idol” received so many votes! a world-record 132 million votes, please tell me how many duplicates?
By far the most riveting performance of the evening was Jessica Sanchez’s duet on “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” with original Broadway “Dreamgirl” Jennifer Holliday; a masterful performance for 16 year old Jessica and a look at what’s to come for this minute powerhouse.
Being the runner up is, as I have said before, the best that can happen to any contestant; ask Katherine McPhee or Adam Lambert for starters. Also, Jessica now doesn’t have to record that awful song she would have had to had she won!
As for the show itself I always think it wierd that established stars have to sing along with their young contemporaies and show enjoymant doing it. Did John Fogerty really enjoy singing with Philip?
Another year has gone, they are already advertising the try out venues for season 12, and who will replace J Lo? I know, bring Simon back, oh yeah, he has his own show now.
I don’t know why I watch it, I always think they have no idea who is any good, but then a Jessica Sanchez comes along and you believe all over again.

Where can I watch this again and again. It w the best part of last nights show! By far the most riveting performance: Jessica Sanchez’s duet on “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”
I’m sure you can find it on utube, if not now certainly by tomorrow! I agree with you!
Best
