This was quite a week, the opening of the new Batman Movie that we all were waiting for unfortunately sparked off a disaster when a nutter from Colorado believing he was The Joker, opened fire in a crowded movie theatre. Isn’t there enough trouble in this world without some scumbag ruining lives during a showing of the most anticipated movie of the year?
In the wake of the terrible shooting at that Colorado screening of The Dark Knight Rises it was announced earlier this weekend that out of respect Warner Brothers would not be releasing their box office numbers for the film.
To show their support for the decision, and out of respect for those working through the tragedy of this weekend’s events, all other studios are also withholding their numbers according to a posting at The Numbers.
It’s comforting to see an entire industry willing to set aside its own well being and celebrations of success to make room for something far more important. No estimates, no guessing. Just a simple, meaningful, moment of silence.
To that end, when the moment is right and numbers are released we’ll have them for you here, but until then I hope you’ll also take a moment to pray for, think of, or however you express your condolences for those mourning this weekend.
Now the rest of the news;
Jurassic Park 4 Aiming For Summer 2014 Release
Producer Frank Marshall spoke about Jurassic Park IV, and he revealed that they’d like to get it into theaters “within two years” with an aim to release it during the summertime. Marshall also confirmed that this will be a sequel (not a reboot or remake) and made mention of the developments in technology;
“That’s what’s gonna be great about it, technology’s taken a leap now that we can really do some great things”
They did “some great things” when they brought Michael Crichton’s novel about a park inhabited by cloned dinosaurs to the big screen back in 1993, nearly two decades ago. The potential to do something great once again is certainly there, and as Marshall notes, technology has taken a leap. Let’s just hope for good story-telling and good direction. They have Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver on board to do the script, but we still don’t know who will direct. It’s definitely going to be interesting to hear who is brought on board to helm the film, and maybe get an idea of what the story for the follow-up will be. I wonder if that new kid Spielberg is busy?

Fred Willard Arrested for Masturbating at an Adult Theater
You sure you want to read this? OK; Comedian Fred Willard (Wall-E, Youth in Revolt, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Best in Show) was arrested in Hollywood on Wednesday night for allegedly masturbating at an adult theater. He was charged with performing lewd acts and released shortly after.
In response, PBS decided to fire the 72-year-old actor as the narrator on “Market Warriors.” But he wasn’t just fired, the network decided to bring on “Antiques Roadshow” host Mark Wahlberg to reshoot all the episodes Willard appears in that have yet to air.
Meanwhile, Willard is denying that anything inappropriate happened, saying that the entire thing was a “big misunderstanding.”
Jeez, he’s 72 years old! Leave him alone! Besides, who was there to spot him anyway? Sounds funny to me!
Harrison Ford Re-Teams with Gary Oldman for “Paranoia” Thriller
Harrison Ford is set to re-team with his “Air Force One” co-star Gary Oldman in the upcoming “Paranoia” thriller that also stars Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Amber Heard (The Rum Diary), Julian McMahon (“Nip/Tuck”), Josh Holloway (“Lost”), and Richard Dreyfuss (Red). The film will be directed by Robert Luketic. In this high-stakes thriller, Adam Cassidy (Hemsworth) is an ambitious junior technologist trying to climb the ranks of telecom giant Wyatt Corporation. But after one costly mistake, Adam is blackmailed by ruthless CEO Nicholas Wyatt (Oldman) to turn corporate spy by going to work for the firm’s top competitor, which is run by Wyatt’s old mentor, Jock Goddard (Ford).
Adam soon finds himself delivered into prepackaged success, living his fantasy life of old-world boardrooms, private clubs, exotic cars, and all the spoils of Manhattan bachelorhood. However, behind the scenes, he is merely a pawn in Wyatt’s power play, and must search for a way out from under his boss, who will stop at nothing, even murder, to gain a multi-billion dollar advantage.
